As my brown hair changes to gray like turning autumn leaves, joining a “shared value” sales consulting firm to share my work and make sure it sustains beyond the end of my teaching career has grown from a thought to desire. I finally found the right fit — the RAIN Group out of Framingham, MA.
Because so many unqualified salespeople enter the unregulated sales training business, the world is full of fakers, parrots, and charlatans. Finding wheat in mountains of chaff is difficult. My particular search has been for the right creators of intellectual property, because few in this space truly create anything. Most knock off someone else’s work, offer opinions, Google stuff on the web and pontificate, or sell programs that were blah a decade ago and haven’t been update with an original thought since.
My sales coaching and talent development work — which is research-based and life skills oriented — is a perfect front-end fit to the existing programs created by co-presidents Mike Schultz and John Doerr, who share a similar passion for honoring our profession. RAIN Group is heavy on web-based curriculum and tools to supplement teaching and coaching, so my work fits nicely into their ever expanding portfolio of real-time sales curriculum for new business, relationship management, and leadership programming. Programs deal directly with the realities of selling in today’s radically different marketplace of changing buying behaviors and challenges.
The cross-pollination of our expanding bodies of intellectual property will continue to benefit client companies and sales professionals who are serious about getting better. I look forward to this partnership, and to the continuation of my work a few winters down the road when the time arrives for me to step aside.
But until that inevitability finally arrives life will continue to be all about yeses and nos and coaching deals that transform organizations, lives, and careers. Passionate people can do great things and we look forward to helping those who feel the same way.
