note: Despite living in a glass house of my own, I am compelled to roll a boulder toward another. Here is an inescapable truth: I no longer can stomach Tiger Woods.

Watching Tiger Woods pretend to have a “news conference” with no journalists and only invited friends, I couldn’t help but think what a surreal narcissist this rich and clueless buffoon insists on re-proving. Woods has learned nothing. He remains so far out of touch with reality he could not find it with a map, tour book, and bloodhound. For exhibit A, see if you can watch his “confession” without wincing. Exhibits B and C: He has not and will not jettison his two biggest deceptive enablers, his agent and caddy.
Agent Mark Steinberg’s razor-wire protective fence still encircles the flogger’s glass mansion. The “press conference” was his idea and orchestration. Caddy Steve Williams, a New Zealander, remains a national embarrassment to four million Kiwis. I have spent a lot of time in New Zealand and love the place top to bottom: all the sheep, cattle, green grass, giant trout, and gracious people. Everything and everybody, except Williams. He’s every bit the lying fake Woods is and still not man enough to admit it. His bombast is the only thing that rivals his ego.
“I will not allow heckling,” Williams announced in a recent Australian interview.
Really? A bold proclamation, Stevie boy. What’s your plan on stopping me? Last time I checked you were and are a bag-lugging lapdog. You won’t allow heckling? Wrong; you’ll inspire it. I know because during my first tournament visit I shall begin with you.
Woods is a pitiable figure who deserves to be poor not rich, looking for work, and trying to juggle overdue bills unfairly inflated by too-high interest rates with no payday in sight. This great country houses millions of far better men and women courageously scrambling to keep their homes and family lives intact. Woods does not have problems. Woods is a problem.
I hope and think millions of people join me in rooting for Elin Woods to play the game for a year or so and then dump the jerk and skeedaddle with the kids and far more dollars than her tightwad husband will ever again earn. No woman deserves sustained humiliation.
This whole orchestrated “addiction” charade is a disgusting public relations ploy that no one who can add two plus two with a pencil or calculator is dumb enough to fall for. This guy has yet to earn anything in life unrelated to golf. He’s been coddled and spoon-fed since he was a toddler, and continues to be because he can do what–pound a dimpled golf ball? You have got to be kidding; for this we cheer? Perhaps you do. I hope you do not.
By any definition Woods is nothing but an exhibitionist, on the course and off. These days it’s the only thing he seems to do consistently well. He is a textbook narcissist, so in love with himself that he’s blind and deaf to wrongdoing, accountability, and criticism; he’s very much the poster child of the entitlement generation that produced him.
I had a narcissist work for me once and I knew within one day that despite her immense talent she would never mesh with anyone on the team. Far worse, she wouldn’t care. It was all about her, every minute of every hour of every day, and the heck with everyone else. She never did fit in and her self-centeredness caused ten times the aggravation of the previous worst employee I’d ever had to deal with.
Some people just aren’t worth it. She was one. Woods, Steinberg, and Williams are others.
There are a lot of great young golfers out there. Pick a new favorite and cheer him on. You’ll both be glad you did.
